25 Jul Let Your Dreaded Future Motivate You
I have clients ask me all the time, “How can I stay motivated in my business.” All too often entrepreneurs come out of the business gates on full throttle. They go 12-, 14-, maybe even 16 hours a day – just working nonstop. The adrenaline of the new business venture keeps them going, but then the inevitable happens. They get burned out and that flame of passion that helped them crank out days or months of 80+ hour weeks is waning or completely gone.
So, how can you get your motivation levels back up and keep them high?
Picture your dreaded future. This is what your future will look like if you don’t follow through on certain areas of your business or if you let things fall to the wayside. Imagine your dreaded future is like looking in the rearview mirror. It’s not your reality (just yet), but it is right there behind you letting you know what will happen if you don’t accelerate toward what you really want.
Define your compelling future. If the dreaded future is in your rearview mirror, then your compelling future is what you see out of the front windshield. It is the vision you are (and should be) striving or driving toward at top speed. What is it that you want for your life? For your business? It’s time to get focused on this vision and use this to motivate you to push through. But, make sure your future vision is compelling. If it isn’t enticing enough or widely different from what you have already achieved, it won’t motivate you enough to overcome.
If you don’t have an accountability partner to keep you on track and moving toward your compelling future, then now is the time to do so. Having someone who lights a fire under you and not let you succumb to your dreaded future can be the catalyst you need to generate life- and business-changing momentum.
