12 Jun Who Really Controls Your Time?
In business, it’s not what you know, but instead how you execute. And, when you have execution killers lying in wait, you have to be quick to recognize them and resolve them before they derail your progress.
And, one of the most execution killers is: not controlling your time. When you allow others to dictate your schedule, you are ultimately giving up control, when you should not have to.
The truth is, you have many people vying for your time – all the time. Whether it is family members, friends, employees, clients, prospects, sales calls, marketing calls, volunteer work, Board positions, social media – you name it – your time is always limited and in high demand.
The harsh reality is, if you’re like most business owners, you are giving away too much of your time and your attention. And, with this lack of control, you inevitably allow someone else to control your outcomes and if you achieve your goals.
When you relinquish control and let others dictate your time, then you are also giving them the invitation to use you for their benefit and to achieve their end goals. I hate to state it so harshly, but it is the truth. If you do not make time for yourself and for your business by drawing a clear line in the sand, then how will you be able to fulfill your vision?
It is time now to decide what you say yes to and what you say no to. This week, I want you to make a list of all the things that require your time. Categorize them and analyze each category to see where you should be spending more or less time.
Now, I understand that many of these categories will be important, but it is also important to regulate when YOUR important things need to be done too.
So I challenge you this week to ask yourself these three questions:
- How much of your time are you controlling?
- How many hours are you allowing others to control your life?
- What needs to change and how can I change it?
I encourage you to start taking back your time and find ways to ensure that you can achieve your goals, your objectives, and your dreams.
